Like most people who have been to Costa Rica, I fell in love. The people, the Caribbean, the cloud forest, the pura vida! And every day, pura vida started off right with gallo pinto, tortillas and some cheese. Gallo pinto isn't complex, but somehow it tastes like heaven. Probably because you're surrounded by sloths and tiny gem like frogs and the nicest people. Casa del Pollo brings you right back there. The family who runs this place is straight Tico. It was like eating at my friend's house at Playa Bandera. Just talking about life, the world, being warm and feeling like you were in good company with a nice, big helping of the national dish, gallo pinto. This is a place to get a slice of Tico life right in Portland. Who knew? What a lucky find! The sauces are delicious and the rice and beans as warm and hearty as the company. They smoke their chicken in their smoker outside and it smells divine when you walk up. As cozy and welcoming as Costa Rica itself! Pura vida!

You will perhaps think spring break has made me easy, giving five stars on the first date at Casa del Pollo, but I don't think I'll change my mind as I plan to frequent this place now that I know how good the food is. This is the restaurant I wanted to try when my family ended up at the dreadful California Pizza Kitchen. Now I regret that fateful night even more because I just ate the best smoked chicken tacos that I've ever eaten. Granted, it's been a day of painting, gardening, and bark dusting, so I certainly worked up an appetite. But take a moment to drool over those photos of smoked chicken to see why this place could be an easy five stars. Go ahead. I'll wait. See? The taste trumps the photos--this chicken is moist and boasts a natural smoked taste, not too salty, not over done. There's no beer or wine, and the space is tiny with maybe six tables inside. When a small group came in after me, someone asked, "Is this a good time? Are you closing?" The owner answered with a smile, "It's a great time; when it's crowded, it's not so great." That might be true, but I happen to know it'd be worth the wait--just the salsas are worth the wait. Thanks, Yelp! I've driven passed this place so many times, not even noticing it. I would have never tried it without your support and those photos.

Really delicious food, friendly service. My 8 year old had a steak quesadilla and said said it was the best he ever had. Really cheesy and had big chunks of tasty steak. I had the ceviche (Fri and Sat only). Fresh tasting and a great lighter option. We will definitely be back!

First time impressed me, even after reading all the strong reviews. Great chicken, smoked perfectly. What more do you need to know. Who knew Lake Oswego actually had a good, ethnic restaurant?

Nice boss, excellent food. BBQ chick just good and not over cooked, smells really good and juicy. The other plate I tried is a mixture of tender pork, vege and rice in a bowl with chips as liner. The pork is so tender and tastes really good. We had long talk with the boss after finish the dinner there. This is really a nice family style place and definitely highly recommended.

Initially I was quite a big fan of their burritos. Now I am finding them heavy on fillers. Potatoes in the breakfast burritos, beans in the smoked pork. Prices are a bit high. The smoked products are great, but they are chincy on the quantity of meat. I'm not a fan of their red sauce or their green, both of which I find too oily. So this place has gone from a 4.5 to a 3 star for me. Size of the burritos and service are both good.

I have nothing but good things to say about Casa del Pollo. The owner is wonderful and the food is just as wonderful. I ordered the 1/2 Chicken Casado and a side of chips w/ gaucamole. The chicken was incredibly moist and well seasoned. Included were two types of sauces ... one greenish and similar to tabouli in taste and the other red/orange similar to mole. Both were great, although the chicken admittedly didn't need any saucing up. The rice and beans that accompanied the chicken were excellent as well. (Ususally when I order a burrito, I refuse to get chicken. Most places can't cook chicken right and end up with really dry meat that can only be saved by a healthy dousing of salsa. I am definitely going to try one of Casa del Pollo's chicken burritos soon!) Oh yeah, and the gaucamole was one of the best I've had. I will be back.

Wonderful! Had the arroz con pollo, it was amazing, the cabbage salad was great. Dad had the smoked pork tacos and ate every bite.

It's a quaint, unassuming place in Lake Oswego. You won't miss it because it looks like a little, red house tucked at the corner. You can't go wrong with anything on their menu, but I highly recommend their smoked chicken -- so flavorful and juicy (can be a little greasy too). It's perfect as a late breakfast place because coming here is like having brunch that hits the spot! They serve Costa Rican coffee (I wasn't crazy about it but it's somewhat okay) and their specialty chicken are perfectly proportioned with their rice and veggie sides. Service is excellent. Prices are reasonable. The only downside is that since this place is so tiny, seating capacity is limited. I recommend coming early! However, you may need to wait until the smoked chicked is ready to be served since they make them fresh daily. Overall, it's an okay place. Not fine dining, not fastfood. But great enough to satisfy your chicken cravings.

First time here. I'm a fan already. Love the home style and the hot sauce is awesome!!!

This place is fantastic! It's one of those hidden gems within Lake Oswego. I've lived in Costa Rica for two years and received a good sense of authentic Tico food. This place is legitimate. The staff was friendly and helpful. The food was the best part!! I had the Steak Burrito and loved it. Enjoy! To the owners, nos vemos pronto! Pura Vida Ticos!!

Freaking amazing! Great little place feels like you just drop right into Costa Rica! Friendly staff and delicious food!

I've been here three times. Twice the smoked chicken was super flavorful and perfectly cooked. Last time I came here the chicken was flavorless and horribly overcooked. Really nice owners. Kind of a crappy location. Wish they were more consistent!

Ate with mom. Found out to go place. Excellent food. Love guacamole, steak ( onion, not the one with carrot) green sauce ( chimichuri?) Fried rice. To try is smoke chicken. Well do lots of take out here. Surprised 6 tables inside and high chair.

I've been here twice for lunch and enjoyed both trips. It's a tiny establishment that can easily be missed and seating inside is limited. The smoked chicken is great. It is tender and has a strong smoky flavor but not much in terms of other flavors. Same deal with the smoked pork. I don't think they use a marinade or a dry rub- they let the smoker do all the work. My first time, I got a mixed plate that had smoked chicken and steak with rice and beans. I wasn't a huge fan of the steak. It was quite oily, and not seasoned well, not to mention the texture was a little rubbery. Won't be getting that again. Everything else was great. The second time I stopped in I tried the tacos, which consisted of a tortilla topped with shredded cabbage, meat, a few tomatoes and a light drizzle of a creamy sauce. I personally feel like the tacos could benefit from a little more acid and zing to cut through the heavy smoke flavor. Don't miss out on the green sauce I wish I'd asked what it was called but I was hungry. It is a vibrant green color and features fresh herbs, oil and maybe vinegar? Similar to a Chimichuri but not exactly the same thing. I put that sauce on everydamnthing on my plate and don't regret a single bite of it. The beans and rice are spectacular. I'd go back just for those alone but there are lots of other things on the menu that are calling my name.

Visited oregon on a business trip from NYC and i had to try Oregon's spanish food. I can say this place has really good food. The waiters were very nice and attentive. I ordered rice, chicken and black beans and my colleague had something similar. I will be returning when i am in Oregon again.

I was attracted to this place on the premise that the chicken and food have a Costa Rican flavor. I had the chicken and also a polish sausage with beans and rice. The chicken and sausage were smoked it was like a smoked BBQ. The place was very small so I got my food to go. It's a good place for lunch or a quick/small dinner. If you like to try new places try this place you'll enjoy it. But don't expect fancy or high end.

  • Abdul A.

the first time I went to this place, I had a good experience with the food and the service. But for the next two times, the food wasn't as good and the "owner" was kinda of rude! he was asking many personal questions and was making fun of the last customers who just left and didn't leaver a "big tip" . I don't think I am going back to this place again!

    (2)
  • Kellen M.

The tacos at this place are some of the best I've had. The meat is smoked and well prepared. They also give you a good size amount of meat in each taco. I have returned back to this place multiple times. I've only had their tacos but the other food looks great too. The service was awesome. The only reason I'm not giving 5 stars is because it's a small place that isn't very comfortable to hang out and eat but the service is friendly.

    (4)
  • A M.

The food is great and the guy who runs the place is just a joy to speak with. He is a real Costa Rican and you can just tell he loves his country.

  • Geoff S.

I have been a regular at Casa de Pollo for almost three years. The food is wonderful, simple yet delicious but most of all filling. The fine food is topped only by the familial hosts preparing their authentic Costa Rican meals in a kitchen that could have been lifted straight from their home country. Warm, friendly, and charming, Casa de Pollo has convinced me that sometimes the best way to eat is to eat like a Tica. Try the Pinto con Pollo (smoked dark meat, but that's to taste) with a healthy dose of their fantastic green sauce. (I wish I could tell you what's in it, but they keep it secret) I'm a huge fan, and Jorge and crew can be sure that I'll be back and I'll be hungry for more

  • Agie A.

I am an LO native, well travelled, and a 'foodie.' I definitely understand the appeal of a place like this and went in search of that authentic experience. I wanted to love this place - mom and pop shop serving home made Latin cuisine, as the reviews highlight, but not so much. It's not up to par, in fact it's horrible. Just save the risk of staph or campylobacter and go down the street to chipotle or taco del mar instead. The "green sauce" highlighted so much in the reviews is just olive oil and some Latin spices. I think these American fatties just like oil in their food and think that means 'good.' It's not. It's gross. The food is bland, dry and we couldn't get through past a few bites before just dumping dinner in the trash and getting froyo instead. They're nice people, but there is a reason the place looks like a shack.

    (1)
  • Xander F.

The food here is very, VERY good. If you are looking for something a little simpler, they have a 'bean and cheese' burrito in the kids menu that they are perfectly happy to serve adults (and it's DEFINITELY 'adult sized' - no tiny portions, here). ABSOLUTELY get that with their green sauce. It's a bit messy, but is unbelievably addicting, and a large part of why this place is a must-go-to.

  • Brad S.

Incredible food. Fresh ingredients, great taste, excellent value for money. We sat outside on the picnic table (only 3 tables inside)...still nice and shady even at 1pm. Highly recommended!

awesome food!!!! I found this place on yelp and went with a couple friends. The owner is super cool and the server was amazing too. I will be eating here every time I'm in the area.

My sister and I had the smoked chicken tacos and my Mom had the smoked chicken burrito. They were very good with good sized portions too. A nice bonus was all the unique sauces on the table; some store bought and some made on site. The service was good and very friendly. I will return to this place when I can. So why not 5 stars? Because the tortillas for the tacos are SO flimsy that you're lucky to get one bite before they grenade all over the place. Seriously?!! Of all the work that goes into making this delicious lunch and they can't either grill the tortillas for 10 seconds or at least double up on them so you can actually eat them normally?

  • Rob P.

I've eaten here twice and found it to be excellent! On my first visit I asked what was their specialty and was told the smoked chicken. I rarely order chicken so he asked if I liked ceviche. Well, this gringo had never tried it so he offered me a small sample. I immediately asked for an order of that stuff! I also got a beef burrito that was enormous. It was all delicious! In addition to it being better than average food, the family in that tiny kitchen were so warm and welcoming! I enjoyed visiting with them and really felt as though my dollars were truly supporting a worthy family and their business. I rarely dish out five star reviews but would readily provide one for this place if it weren't for one issue. The place is ridiculously small and not as clean/fresh as it could be. I understand they now have a second location but hope they can find a new and modern spot for their flagship location. Highly recommend calling ahead for take-out. Great food at very good prices!

So delicious and the owners are very friendly. Love their smoked chicken and my kids always get the chicken burrito. Make sure you get extra green sauce- you will never get tired of it. The small (I mean really small) restaurant is very charming and a nice change from the normal cookie cutter chains.

The absolute best smoked rotisserie chicken complete w excellent salsa and chimichuri. $9.50 and I still have lunch tomorrow with corn tortillas and pickled carrots. Did I mention afejores for breakfast tomorrow? Family run shack w limited tables and oh to go!

Smoked Chicken Tacos yum! Very flavorful and would defiantly come back and eat here. Just wished they served like margaritas with their food. It's a small restaurant with 5 tables. Very authentic place.

  • Chuck G.

An excellent and authentic place. Your experience begins as you drive up and catch the aroma of the meet smoking in the outdoor smoker. Delicious. I had three smoked pork tacos. The serving is large. The smoked pork is just great. Pay not attention to the various bottles hot sauces on the table and ask for the homemade chimichurri sauce. The flavor is so good. The dining room is tiny and only has a few tables. The largest table accommodated our party of five... barely. The service is informal, but attentive. The meal is a great value at $8. For a casual -- but delicious -- lunch, this is a great place to go.

The owner Mario needs an attitude adjustment. I'm not sure if it's short man disease or what his problem is? I've been in at least five times I do enjoy the food but I don't need the cool guy attitude please.

I am completely charmed by Casa del Pollo, but there are some funny quirks when you dine at this small family run cafe. Perhaps the oddest is the name of their specialty taco which is called "Taco Mister Ed." I am sure this is intended as a reference to the name of a family member, but I can't get the talking horse off my mind. So far I've visited twice for lunch and there will most certainly be more visits. My first meal was the chicken casado, which is a plate filled with rice, black beans, and escabeche (pickled carrots and onion). The chicken was very tender and I thoroughly enjoyed my meal. On my second visit, I ordered the chicken burrito. It is a very large serving and I felt like I barely made a dent. All of the flavors were the same as my first meal, minus the escabeche, which was probably my favorite part. I think I'll stick to the casado or try the Taco Mister Ed (kielbasa) if I can keep a straight face. The dining room is a bit challenging. This is a very small cottage with about four tables. The kitchen is equally small and they have a BBQ on the front porch. It is charming in the same way a family living room filled with photos is comfy and inviting. The small space is filled with Costa Rican flags, art, coffee bean bags and travel books. When dining in, assuming you are able to grab a table, it was very humid inside and all the windows were fogged up. They also charge an extra dollar to dine in, which you don't see very often. The majority of other diners called in orders in advance during both of my visits. Sodas (Coke products) are available by the can and they also have coffee. The family is as nice as can be and the food is very good. The menu is extremely limited with chicken or beef options of essentially the same food plated in slightly different ways (burrito, taco, casado). Also, beware the parking warnings at the strip mall next door. I confirmed with the owner that their customers should park in the lot between the red buildings and not next door.

If you read almost any tourist guidebook about Costa Rica, they will surely comment that "tico" cuisine is not exceptional. Maybe not, but numerous restaurants offer very good dishes. As a regular visitor to Costa Rica, I am addicted to 'gallo pinto', a beans and rice dish consumed mainly at breakfast. Well, Casa de Pollo offers an outstanding version with egg (and sausage if you prefer). This is a plate that brings back memories. The smoked chicken casado, burrito or taco may be unlike chicken I have tasted in Costa Rica, but that is because it is even better. As others have mentioned, the owners are delightful, and while I make sure I pour some 'Salsa Lizano' (authentic!!) on my food , I also like to put the green sauce (some kind of basil mixture) on my food. This place is tiny, but worth the drive to Lake Grove to experience. Pura vida, amigos.

Oh my love... ...my darling... I hunger for... CASA DEL POLLO! It's so amazingly delicious. It's definitely a hole in the wall that's worth trying because you will come back wanting more! I always get the 1/4 dark meat chicken with rice and tortillas, they give you this special sauce in a bottle (he reminds me of what its called all the time but I can never remember!) and its smokey, flavorful, and has a spice kick to it... drench that on your chicken and scoop some of the green garlicky paste on your rice, and you'll be in heaven... FOR...SURE... Another amazing dish you have to try is the sausage burritos with the whole works, you'll probably only be able to finish half of it, therefore, my justification for it being $9 is ok. lol. The owner and his family of cooks are always friendly and approachable. My friends and I always enjoy eating here, wish it were a little cheaper so we could come more often, but it is what it is. Casa del Pollo gets 5 stars any day, all day. (Teeny tiny restaurant, but if you ever have to wait for a table, which I never have had to, just know that it'll be worth it. Outside of restaurant not so appealing, but the food will have you hooked for life!)

My husband and I tried Casa del Pollo today after discovering they serve gallo pinto which he craves after spending time in Nicaragua. This was my first time trying it and IT WAS SO GOOD! It was different than he remembers, obviously with the different countries this makes sense. The only thing I would say is if you are looking for food with spicy, heat costa rican most likely won't be the best bet. As far as enviroment I loved how intimate and friendly the whole place was, especially the owners who put forth a special effort to make us feel right at home. All in all an enjoyable experience and we will be returning this week for his birthday. :)

Completely cute, family run, authentic Costa Rican food. If you're looking for something different, but still yummy, Casa del Pollo is where it's at! If you've spent time in Latin American countries and you loved the food, you'll want to check this place out! The plates here remind me of things I ate while in Nicaragua and Costa Rica.

Went there today for lunch with my family who was visiting. It is a tiny little place with 4 or 5 tables and had an authentic Costa Rican vibe to it. The food was fantastic and the staff was very friendly. The smoked chicken is amazing! You can tell it's going to be great when you walk in and take in the smell. This is a great little lunch spot, but I've heard it gets busy around 12-1, so try going outside of this time like we did. Try the brown sauce (Lizano)!

  • Jesse D.

I was actually surprised how it was slightly more expensive then typical especially because they have no where to sit inside. Menu small. It feels more like its for family usuals then walk ins.

I really enjoyed this place! After recently getting back from Costa Rica, I've been looking for an authentic CR restaurant in Portland. These guys are really authentic, super friendly owners and cozy little spot. I will be back for sure!! I got there before the lunch rush and had a chance to chat with the owner about Costa Rica and we had a great talk sharing stories and pictures! Pura Vida!

Ordered off the menu a big plate of meats and veggies for two. We don't eat rice or beans and so asked for a selection of meats & veggies. We were not disappointed - it was a great meal. Can't wait to come back soon.

WORST TACOS EVER. I order the steak tacos today and it consisted of 1 cup of cabbage per taco, and a tiny bit of steak. nothing else. what a waste of money !!!

Great value! Fresh ingredients. Excellent service. 4 star rating rather than 5 only because the place is so small it's hard to get a seat.

  • Christopher Y.

I came in here and got the 1/2 smoked chicken to go, the chicken was delicious. Great smoke flavor, the sauces were flavorful and the sides were good too. Only thing I would want would be bigger portions for the sides. I felt the amount I got was good for a 1/4 chicken. I ordered a 1/2 and brought it home to split with the girlfriend, the carrots were really good but would have liked to have had more. Nice family it's great to see a real family run restaurant.

  • Mike W.

the smell in this place is incredible. Friendly staff but only three of them so it takes them a while to get food out. Once it is out though, wow great stuff. Had the smoked chicken tacos and smothered them in this oily hot sauce. I'll be back for sure.

    (4)
  • Grant W.

Really good, simple food that leaves you really satisfied. Inexpensive and delicious. We always get the chicken tacos, and add a bunch of their homemade green garlic sauce. Really great owners, too. Everyone should eat here at least once.

    (5)
  • Michael B.

Just a heads up, they will not sell individual tacos. This makes me so sad. I want a 1/4 chicken plate with a Kielbasa taco. No can do! You can only get the full order. That is hella lame. I never say "hella" so you know I am serious. This isn't going to change my star rating, it is just disappointing.

Yum yum yum yum yum! YUM! Tasty South American burritos...don't go here looking for Mexican....but go here looking for delicious!

    (4)
  • David g.

Awesome! I eat lunch here almost once a week, always ordering the chicken taco platter. They give you 3 huge tacos, spilling over with chicken with rice and beans on the side. Rice and their green sauce is where its at!! I'll admit the burritos are not their specialty, but I imagine they only have them on the menu so they don't have to explain to the 1-star Lake O locals, that a burrito is not authentic to anybody but USAmericans. This place is family owned and op'd, they are all very friendly and genuine and futbol (soccer) is always on TV! The place is small but I have never had an issue finding a seat. When busy...guess what...it takes a bit longer to get your food, get over it. I write this review because this week it looks like a car ran into the side of their place, they are closed for repairs and I miss my tacos. Eat here, then tell your friends. oh yeah and Ceviche Fridays!!

  • Jimmy G.

Sorry folks, but I have absolutely NO idea how you come up with all these stars. I was the only diner when I visited, and the food was rather slow in coming. Not a bad thing IF they were spending time on prep... they apparently weren't. My food was unattractive, had extremely dry meat, ( Casado Chicken as I recall), and was virtually tasteless... no spices or salt evident. YUK! The beans and rice were equally as bland. Pickeled vegetables tasted like "Watered" vegetables. I live nearby and CRAVE a good Latin-American eatery. Sure wish this was one.

    (1)
  • Kath L.

I am with Jimmy G! Did I eat at the same place as the 5-star folks? Perhaps I had an off night, but food was bland and wait was terribly long (and there was only one other couple in the place). Tacos, I've had better at Baja Fresh. At least they have lot of salsa at BF. The Salsa here was hot, but tasteless. My chicken was dry, also tasteless and tacos were overpriced and tiny. My hubby had a large burrito and it was dry, also tasteless. He kept saying, 'where's the meat', and for $9 it was not a good value...all beans/rice. The owners/servers/cooks are very kind and we want them to succeed, but the food is so bland, dry and tasteles, it's hard to support when they are OVERPRICED. I know it's LO, but it's a fast food and terribly made, and we won't be back. This place must have magical moments, but not when we were there.

I'm from the Bay Area. If you want south of the border food, there's options a-plenty where I'm from. Here, well, not so many. I've been let down by every place I've been up here, even ones with 4-5 star Yelp reviews. But this place, AMAZING! Smoked chicken burrito...wow. I'd probably give it a 4.5 if there were halves only because the chips are not home made. But the tortillas were perfect, the chicken tender and not over cooked and the Costa Rican salsa was delicious (very different from Mexican salsa--thicker and spicier). The cilantro sauce was very nice as well. The man and his family who own the place are crazy nice. Sure, $9.50 is a bit steep for a burrito but this is THE ONLY place in 2 years of searching that even holds a candle to SF in terms of south of the border food. We'll be coming back here...over and over.

It's. So. Good!!!! I'm in town for business and needed somewhere tasty to eat. Thanks to fellow Yelpers, I headed here and damn, I ended up going again the next day for some more! I've only had the casado with 1/4 chicken, but that was all I needed. It comes with black beans, white rice, pickled carrots and onions, corn tortillas, chimichurri sauce and hot sauce - everything a body needs. Chicken is super tender and flavourful, with a nice smoky taste. Beans and rice are tasty and the chimichurri is awesome! Just a heads up to make sure you have some gum on you cause it is just straight up garlicky goodness. The family running this place are quite lovely as well, so if you're in the area, make sure you come here!

Love this place! The food is so good. You have to try their homemade green sauce, it is delicious. The owners are super nice as well and make you want to come back in to support this family business.

rEAD THE REVIEWS SO FINALLY GAVE IT A TRY. The beef tacos were the very best! I would go again just for this, 3 for $6. The chicken, veggie, rice dish was awful. It was diced chicken with previously frozen mixed vegetables and rice all mixed together. This was $8.50. The service initially was great but after we were served that was it, he was more interested in watching TV then checking our beverage or seeing if we needed anything.

Stopped by here on a whim in an effort to try new restaurants. What a gem this place is! Not only was the food absolutely delicious but they also treated us like friends. Sat around, ate superb dishes and watched futbol. Fresh and authentic to the core. We will be back again and again!

  • Jennifer H.

We cannot stop coming back here! We are treated like family. Tonight they had a large togo order right before us so they brought out chips and salsa while we waited. My fiance had the smoked chicken burrito and I had the steak burrito. We had to finally force ourselves to put them down. I would recommend ordering your burritos with a little cheese and sour cream. But the one thing you cannot miss out on is the green sauce! I can't get enough of it!

4 stars, we have not hit an off night yet and hopefully we wont. Our 11 year old eats like a horse when he is there. Dont let the exterior fool you or you will never know what you are missing.

Chowed on the smoked chicken burrito. Deliciuos! Chicken was moist and "healthy" tasting. They have a couple tasting sauces (not hot) that are ab-fab. Small environs (about 5 four person tables) with the smoker out front. Dont recall seeing a restroom?

Awesome little place. Very nice family run business. Basic (in a good way) menu . I really enjoyed the chicken burrito that was very simple but full of flavor. Chicken, white rice & pico (beans and sour cream if you like),with a side of green or red salsa. Just perfect. The burrito was not trying to be more than it was. The owner Jorge was great to chat with while they cooked everything. Been back a few times to try the kielbasa and steak tacos. All very good! My full review here - findmyoregonhome.com/cas…

Really seriously great food! and extremely nice family runs the place. I went in for lunch knowing nothing about the place except that it has a big ol smoker out front. My mom and I ordered and waited close to 25 minutes for the food. It wasnt busy so I was getting a bit frustrated. The place is super small so you'll know if it's busy. However, when the food did come it was totally worth it! I ordered what I thought was the simple quick dish on the menu, an egg with rice meal. It was amazing! They must have cooked and spiced the rice to order. Honestly, this place is worth the trip to crappy Lake Oswego if you have some time to spend for lunch. Totally worth the 5 star rating. I dont know anything about Costa Rican food other than if it tastes like this than I love it!

Has no ambience BUT the food exceptional. Salchichon taco wonderful. Their secret green sauce is garlic heaven!

Exotic! Ethnic! (I've never been to Costa Rica. But closest I got to Costa Rican food is at this place). QUALITY Food is good. Place is super clean considering its size and set up. This place is family owned and this fact is clearly evident in the food taste. Personal choice is Quarter Chicken with rice and beans. Dish also comes with pickled carrots. Deliciously good. Salsa that comes with chips is spicy red in color. But yum in taste. Isn't as spicy as it looks. Good variety of popular store label sauces (mild/medium/hot) are made available on each table. VALUE Good portion size. More than adequate. Fills you good when you are hungry. Highlight is the store setup. True to its name (Casa Del Pollo), it feels home when you are there and the food feels fresh off the kitchen/grill.

Amazing! We had the pork, smoked chicken, and bean burrito. Everything was great. Staff was friendly. Solid all around.

Dont eat here if your time is valuable. Took me 40 minutes to get a burrito and the owner never once acknowledged or apologized for the wait. The burrito fell apart because it was inundated with rice filler, little of the good stuff. All for $8. I think not

Awesome chicken, the chimichurri is amazing as well. The staple is the Tacos but the 1/2 smoked chicken is right up there as well. The staff is extremely nice and very accommodating when it comes to changes. I would say these are some of the best tacos I have had (if they made their own tortiallas, it would be the best taco in the burbs). The place is small so be careful if you are trying to go with a huge group.

Casa del Pollo is the only Costa Rican restaurant that I know about on the West coast. I am from Costa Rica and I had to have a taste of home when I drove by the small restaurant yesterday. The menu is simple and a bit over-priced, offering casados, tacos and burritos. Tacos and burritos are not traditional Costa Rican foods, but I am guessing the owners offered these choices on their menu for diners who expect to find Latin American food that is familiar/Mexican. Since the restaurant is so young (opening only a few months ago), a burrito is going to attract more new customer than a casado, a traditional dish with which many people may not be familiar. My husband and I both had a chicken casado. Traditionally, a casado comes with the meat of your choice, rice, black beans, fried plantains, tortillas, salad or vegetables and a fried egg on top of the food. At Casa del Pollo, the casado only came with a meat choice, black beans, rice and pickled veggies, which was a little disappointing. However, the taste of the rice, beans and chicken left me wanting two more helpings of each. The white rice has a hint of garlic, the beans flavored with culantro de ojancha reminded me of my grandma's kitchen and the chicken was juicy and tender. This dish is a taste of home without me needing to do any of the work...or dishes. The owners told me that they are going to expand upon their menu so they can offer some more choices, like gallo pinto (a dish made of mixed rice and beans) and maduros (fried plantains). If you like Cuban food, you'll love Costa Rican food. Also, if you do not like spicy foods, you'll love Costa Rican food. Give Casa del Pollo a try soon. I'll definitely be back.

Pros: The owner and his wife are pretty good cooks. So, as long as they are not too busy at the time you come in, then you can rest assure that your order will be satisfying (for the "healthy" taste). This couple is really interesting, humble, and friendly. Cons: This place is very small and the seating arrangement is near to each other. I don't think it can accomodate as many people as they want. They also need to work on their ventilation system, so the windows will not fog up everytime they are fully occupied. If you see many people dining in, then you should prepare yourself to wait about 15-25 minutes to get your food. If you are in hurry and just want to get a quick lunch, this is not your kind of place. I personally love spicy food with some "kick" in it... Well, I will not get that "kick" from this place; however, I feel like I am giving myself justice for a healthier meal each time I have come here. I do admire their passion and bringing something different into this area. They have only been open for about three months....there will be some "hit or miss" experiences. I have made multiple visits prior to making this review. In summary, my experiences have not always been satisfying but not always dissapointing either. That's why I finally decided to give 3 stars.

LO needed a place like this. Quality, authentic and filling fare served fast enough for a workday lunch. The first thing the owner will ask is, "for here or to go?" Opt for "here," if you can, to take fullest advantage of the flavorful sauces at each table. Parking can be tight.

In a tiny storefront that recently was a small coffee shop, and before that, a different small coffee shop, and even before that, a small office, comes a restaurant that I would never have expected in the Lake Grove area of Lake Oswego. Casa del Pollo has opened up in this space and I couldn't have made a finer discovery. Casa del Pollo is owned by a very friendly Costa Rican family that previously had a restaurant of the same name in Gresham. I had never tried the former location and now I regret that fact. But rather than regretting the past, I should look to the future. A future that includes many meals at Casa del Pollo. I am usually a deeply marinated or boiled chicken kind of guy, but I do enjoy an occasional roasted chicken. This was the best roasted chicken I have ever had and they don't even have the rotisserie set up yet (they tell me that's coming after city permits clear). They clearly know what they are doing with the roasting. We had burritos, both chicken and carne asada (also delicious). The burritos were fantastic and fresh, with plenty of meat, delicious black beans, pico de gallo, and the best straight-up white rice I have had in some time (normally they include sour cream as well, but I opted for exclusion). I love Mexican burritos with everything fried in lard, but this Costa Rican version, simple and straightforward, seemed fresher and healthier. Their menu is fairly limited at the moment, but they tell me they will have plántano and yucca frito, which I can't wait for. They also currently have tacos, sandwiches and salads. Most dishes are chicken or steak centric, but some also include kielbasa and pastrami. You can also get casado style, which is essentially everything tossed in a bowl. Seating is limited but it would make a fun little place to eat at. I was their first take out customer and they took my picture to celebrate the occasion. This is a super friendly family and I look forward to seeing them on each visit.

Delicious smokey chicken & burritos. Be sure to try their wonderful green oil-based salsa.

The portions here are out of control! The chicken is smoked to perfection and you get a ton of it. You do not need to order the largest possible unless you want to take it home. The food here is really excellent.

I love this place! They have the best tacos and burritos- I recommend the smoked chicken burrito. The secret here is that they smoke all their meats in house which is amazing! They also have this out-of-this-world green sauce that I ask them to add in my burritos, it is so good I usually add more while I eat it as well. Who knows whats in it, but it is truly amazing! Definitely give this place a shot if you like huge burritos and tasty tacos! Added bonus- you are supporting a local family business, some of the nicest people you will meet!

This is one of those places you hate to review because soon it will be so busy you will never get in. It is super tiny inside (4 tables) but the food is awesome! The entire experience can be summed up with GO HERE!

Casa del Pollo is a great little Casado. The food is as authentic Costa Ricense as the family that runs the place. I've had the Chicken Casado and Chicken Burrito. Both were delicious. The service can be hit or miss depending on how many people are working in the kitchen. If you're pressed for time I'd place the order beforehand. The coffee was rich, dark, and delicious, and made from Organic and Fare Trade Certified Costa Rican coffee beans. I love hot and spicy so I did add a bit of their bottled hot sauce to my meals. The green parsely/garlic/vegetable oil sauce is very good as well. Ademas, si querrias ordenar en espanol, la familia es muy amable y paciente. Gracias a dios por La Casa del Pollo! My only gripe is that they didn't have any Imperial Cervezas.

I wanted to wait and write a review after a few months. I was excited to see a Costa Rican restaurant open in Oregon earlier this year. The menu was limited early on. The location was a coffee shop in the past, and wasn't equipped for a full service restaurant. I am glad that we have continued to eat here, as the menu has continued to grow and offer more Costa Rican plates. In regards to the menu, I can tell that the owners are trying to balance typical offerings like burritos and tacos, with Costa Rican dishes. I have read reviews where people want one or the other. But it's a nice balance, so everyone can find something they like. I love that you can watch them prepare the meal in the kitchen. And I have been very pleased with how healthy the dinners have been. A much better alternative to the greasy plates at some other places. The owners are fantastic - willing to talk about the future of the menu, take suggestions, and just talk about life in general. Prices are very reasonable as well. The one drawback is the size of the restaurant. I think they can only hold 16 people max. However, we normally visit around 5 pm or 7 pm and always seem to miss the crowds. Or we are watching them walk out the door. All in all, I highly recommend Casa Del Pollo. It's a great change of pace from the Mexican restaurants in the area.

This is a very small place, but the food has huge flavor. The staff is great, the price is fantastic. I had the smoked chicken with tortillas and the chicken just melts in the mouth. Yumm!

In addition to the delicious chicken and steak, I dream about the authentic, homemade, one-of-a-kind green sauce and red sauce! This is one of the only places to get great take out that the parents and kids will both agree on!! And it's healthy! The best! Call ahead for quick take out service!!! Get the chicken tacos. Great food. Go now. Great kids meal as well.

This place is AMAZING. Tiny operation, but don't let the crockpot, warming case and grill out front fool you... this place means business! Staff is very friendly and spirited, and they are fond of their food as well. After grilling the chickens, they will even come in and show them to everyone, just to prove how wonderful they are! The green sauce is incredible. I put it ALL OVER EVERYTHING! They wouldn't tell me what was in it, but were happy to sell me some to-go... so I can put it all over everything at home. Lunch hours are a bit hectic, but at 1pm they usually settle down and aren't stressed to find a place to sit.

Outstanding! My favorite restaurant in LO. The smoked chicken is their signature dish and it's fabulous. One time my husband mentioned how much he likes chicken wings and on subsequent visits the owner brought over a couple of wings just for him. Whatever that green herby oil/sauce is, I can't get enough of it. We've ordered tacos, burritos, and the half chicken. You can't go wrong with any of them, but do try the smoked chicken at least once!

Yum! Excellent chicken, nice and garlicky. (Reminds me of the Cuban restaurant Versailles in LA). The chix burrito comes with both red & green sauce, not salsas to my thinking (I couldn't taste any heat at all but my tolerance for hot is rather high) but both very delicious indeed. The green was my favorite, oil based more like a tempanade. So glad they're here in this culinary wasteland of Lake Oswego! Very nice folks making clean flavors. Thank you!

This place is awesome. Friendly service, cozy little atmosphere, and DELICIOUS food. Only bummer is that they don't serve beer or wine, but who cares when there is SALSA LIZANO? Definitely recommend this place a million times over. Love them.

WOW what a find!! Yes, this is a hole in the wall place, but GREAT FOOD, and the owner George and his wife and kids are so welcoming and charming. We often get orders to go, since the facility is "cozy", but if you do decide to eat there, the aroma of smoked chicken is intoxicatingly wonderful. Try the green salsa...I don't know what he puts in it, but oh....so satisfying !!! I would highly recommend this place!!!

Yumcious. Pleasantly surprised an independent business that has survived and seems to thrive serving wonderfully different food. Fresh smoked chicken in simple tacos, garlicky chimchurrie sauce, picante sauce, huge burritos, all fresh simple and healthy. Slightly higher than a faster food place, but definitely worth it!
